Description

This is no white-hat book of do-goodery. Nor is it a love song.

My philosophy of good living has two core components. The first is an idea that I call Whole Life Design which states that there are only four things or behaviours in life that we need to pay attention to - and everything else will take care of itself. These four elements are relaxation, sleep, nutrition and movement - in no particular order. They are all inter-connected yet can be dealt with in isolation.

The second is a loose collection of principles from Zen Buddhism. These include personal responsibility, managing pleasure, a dedication to the truth and a strong sense of agency. Zen is very much a personal journey and an outlook. A way of approaching life and how to live it. It is often counter-intuitive. Its emptiness colours my life.

Although electronic, this eBook may not be a book. It is a collection of ideas each with its own self-contained argument structure. It may be an eAssembly. The chapters are not chapters. They are left-field musings. Postcards of pitch.

There are chapters which focus on each of the above elements and chapters that focus on other things. Naturally, I could have formatted the sequence of the content into neat themes according to the above fundamentals. Yet I have not done so.

Just as Chaos theory is orderly yet appears to be random, I believe that insight has no need for enforced sequence and logic, yet somehow pulls everything together all of its own accord. The first and last chapters are by design. The rest is as it fell.

Everything stands alone, yet everything is connected to everything else. The function of the book is merely to encourage a shift in your cognition. To challenge some common unstated assumptions. And to entertain.

Collectively, we are sleeping. I say it’s time to wake up.
